No major competition markets equal footing in the manner of the NFL: it defines their identity. However, after ten games during the current schedule, this isn’t a league with perfect equilibrium among elite teams, poor performers, and average squads. Instead, it's a scenario where most of the league appear to be adequate.

Clear Picture in NFC

Within the National Football Conference, at least, we see clearer definition. The Rams and Seahawks (both at 7-2) look like the most well-rounded squads across the league, and delivered decisive victories on Sunday. Philadelphia at 6-2 notwithstanding their difficulties maintain one of the most talented rosters across the NFL, comparable to the Packers franchise (five wins, two losses, one tie). Detroit as well (six and three), with their fluctuating form along both lines of scrimmage and navigating tension on their coaching staff, have shown they're capable of dominating good teams. For each of these squads, one can readily put together a Super Bowl path.

AFC Playoff Chaos

Over in the AFC, championship race is a jumbled mess. Your four division leaders after ten games: the Colts, Patriots, Broncos (all at 8-2) and Steelers (5-4 record). Consider that carefully. No Chiefs presence. Buffalo is missing. Baltimore and Cincinnati are absent. The traditional powers, backed by premier quarterback talent, display either glaring roster weaknesses or are dealing with health issues.

Parity Mechanics

To some extent, this is exactly what the league wants. However, witnessing the current division frontrunners in the AFC remains somewhat odd. Aspects of each franchise pass the championship smell test, yet not completely. Indianapolis Outlook

Starting in Indianapolis, Daniel Jones hasn't descended to complete disaster level. But the last two weeks have been worrying. He's reverting to turning over the ball and faltering under duress. He was sacked seven times facing Atlanta during Sunday's contest, and had a short sequence during which he tossed a pick and lost three fumbles. This is a week after he committed turnovers five separate times facing the Steelers.

The Colts’ offense performed well initially as Jones prevented game-changing errors. Taylor along with the blockers make the Colts good enough to survive periodic mistakes, as demonstrated overseas. Yet Jones going back to his previous error-filled form would finish postseason aspirations.

New England Patriots

The Patriots feel somewhat similar. A year ago, they were a punchline. Currently, they represent the NFL's most pleasant shock and the most successful franchise in the NFL after seven straight wins. Had it not been for losing due to fumbles a manageable matchup facing Pittsburgh, they'd possess a 9-1 record with the best record. Last season, they were old and slow. Now they’re young, fast and unafraid. However, we must acknowledge how soft the Patriots’ schedule has been. They have faced the easiest slate in the league, yet vulnerabilities remain. Their quarterback has taken sacks 35 times – the second-most in football – and some of the shots he suffered last weekend were vicious. Over time, those hits add up.

Denver Analysis

The Broncos hold also 8-2, and it still feels like they're nervously waiting. Bo Nix has been erratic, and the offense plodding, as the defense handles most of the responsibility. Absent adequate signal-calling, the Broncos won't frighten anyone in the postseason. Los Angeles remains nearby in the Western division holding a 7-2 record, however, health issues within their blocking corps will present challenges to mount a deep postseason tilt.

Steelers Examination

And then there’s Pittsburgh, somehow still leading their division notwithstanding receiving a 25-10 defeat from the Chargers on Sunday night. Their scoring margin remains negative, their defensive unit frequently falters, and Aaron Rodgers’ limitations during his career phase continue to show up. They’re 5–4 and holding on, yet Baltimore, with their QB returning to health and the schedule softening, are riding a three-game streak. We shouldn't be completely astonished that the Ravens have pulled within a game of the Steelers, but that it has arrived so quickly represents criticism toward the Steelers' uneven performances. The fact Baltimore began the season 1-5 and still look like likely to claim the title is telling about the entire AFC.

Traditional Powers

Baltimore constitutes part of the Big Three – alongside the Bills and Chiefs – driven by elite quarterback play, who could still create the greatest concern among competitors if they qualified. They’re the No One Wants To See ‘Em teams, however, both franchises persistently undermine themselves.

Bills Struggles

A week ago, the Bills felt confident following victory over Kansas City. This weekend they encountered one of the most disappointing losses during the campaign. They didn’t just lose versus the Dolphins; they looked terrible, falling 30-13 on the road. It was Miami’s first win over the Bills in over three years.
