Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be asked about his future following another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from above,” the coach stated.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with performances this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
