The British government is prepared to move forward with employing the full worth of immobilized Russian funds to support Ukraine's war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a shared declaration, the leaders of the UK, France, and Germany asserted that this joint measure would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and urge Russia to engage in negotiations.

They clarified that the decision would be executed in close cooperation with the US.

United Kingdom penalties have immobilized more than £25bn of Russian assets since Moscow launched its widespread offensive against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. However, until now, resources provided to Ukraine using Russian holdings had only been taken from gains and dividends accrued on them.

Sir Keir told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, France, and Germany were aligned in their goal to advance efforts toward employing the complete amount of the frozen Russian sovereign funds to end the war.

He noted that further measures soon would increase the strain on Russia.

This declaration follows European representatives gathered in Copenhagen recently to discuss using immobilized Russian funds for a 140-billion-euro loan to the Ukrainian nation.

In the previous month, US President Donald Trump called on G7 allies to confiscate or otherwise use frozen Russia's holdings, as reported by media sources.

The total of immobilized Russian holdings in the European Union is calculated to be approximately €211bn.

Russia launched extensive bombardments all over Ukraine on recently, leading to electricity outages in significant regions of Kyiv, Kyiv, and several other zones.

A pair of individuals were fatally injured and no fewer than 20 people were hurt in the attack, Ukrainian officials reported.

In a post on X subsequent to the attack, Zelensky commented that the premeditated assault targeted non-military and power facilities.

"What is required is not empty words but firm measures - from the United States, the European Union, and the G7 - in supplying defense mechanisms and applying penalties," he wrote.

"All penalty impositions diminishes Russia's war machine," Zelensky declared, in a separate post.

In the same period, Zelensky told media outlets he would urge Sir Keir to enter the Purl scheme, under which Nato countries buy weapons from the America to give to Ukraine.

While applauding the UK's firm backing for Ukraine, he noted it should indicate firmly that it would engage in the initiative, as well as enforce more sanctions on the Russian Federation.
