Trump Calls Relatives of Attacked Guard Personnel to the White House
President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he conversed with her family and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Tragic Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
Presidential Offer
The president explained he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed reporters. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Mourners gathered over the past few days at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s national effort to support policing efforts in the capital.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that educators wished for. She behaved with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Steps and Government Revisions
Officials have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event led the government to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop granting entry permits to holders of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Morrisey stated on television.
Attorney general the attorney general stated on Fox News Sunday that she also intended to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with honor, per the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
